This year, my 2016 in retrospect post will be completely separate from my 2017 resolutions. It's still November, but these resolutions will still apply months from now (unless things change dramatically). So, yes, admittedly this post is mostly copied and pasted from last year with some edits. But I believe that it balances my intellectual and professional goals well with my art-consumption, art-creation, and health goals. My older sister cannot complain that my resolutions are too narrow, as she should worry about herself. Well, she knows who I'm talking about.
1. Be
a PhD student in good standing.
a. Maintain a GPA of at least 3.8
b. Take at least 2 classes per term, with remainder being thesis and seminar credits
c. Complete a program of study and all pertinent documentation
d. Being performing research towards degree
e. Apply for fellowships, including writing proposals
i. Apply for NSF, DoD, NIH
ii. (Potentially) Reapply for Fulbright, Marshall, other such fellowships
iii. Take veterinary medicine grantwriting course (Fall)
2. Be healthy!
a. Walk at least 5x a week and exercise bike at least 2x a week
i. Can substitute exercise bike sessions for walking, but still must do at least 2x a week walking
ii. Cook a meal (lunch or dinner) at least 2x a week
iii. Consume fruits and vegetables everyday
iv. Follow PT regimen everyday
3. Complete books
a. Infinite Jest
b. And then There Were None
4. Annoy Justin to salty tears for a continuous period of 2 minutes per day for every day
5. Pursue intellectual development continually
a. News
i. Fully engage at least five articles a day from at least 3 sources
ii. Steadily expand the number of sources upon which I rely
iii. Gain a deeper political understand by engaging in discourse and reading more literature
iv. Translate my political knowledge and my experiences into five-page-or-longer essays, delivered on my blog, at least once every three months
b. Blog-writing
i. Post at least four times a month, including
1. One update post every month, detailing blog plans and progress
2. At least two blog posts portraying creative writing or efforts in other mediums
3. The aforementioned political essays
4. At least one blog post that is a thematic review or essay of some kind, centered around art
5. Write one food review every two months
a. Can include food cooked by self, or food cooked by others
6. Complete major writing projects (based on Times New Roman, size 12, single-spaced font)
a. Complete a 30 page (or longer) rough manuscript of Nanowrimo 2015
b. Complete a 35 page (or longer) rough manuscript of Nanowrimo 2016
c. Submit one to a publisher
7. Improve public speaking by attending Toastmasters three times a month
i. Complete rest of Competent Communicator manual
ii. Complete through Project 6 of Competent Leadership manual
8. Have cumulatively seen 450 anime shows with the following criteria:
a. TV Ratio >= 70%
b. Dropped <= 3
c. PTW <= 130
d. On Hold + Watching <= 45
i. On Hold <=20
ii. Watching <=25
e. Have seen LOTGH, Kara no Kyoukai, Cardcaptor Sakura, and Diamond no Ace.
f. Watch at least five airing shows per season
i. Must have at least three animation studios represented
9. Read manga~
