In the X-Files - which I have been watching recently - rational scientist Dana Scully and unconventional thinker (muse?) Fox Mulder are paired with each other. Despite these differences, Scully and Mulder manage to solve cases and somehow convince the FBI to not close the X-Files. Despite his insistence that UFOs exist, the government seems okay with having people investigate the paranormal. One thing that caught my attention was that the FBI and NSA really really do not get along. X-Files is "fiction" but it is completely true in the fact that agencies do not want to get along, even if they are both intelligence. As a result, many of the X-Files opened up are never truly closed but are rather not revisited. Thus the few episodes I've seen so far mainly end in utter cliffhangers, which says a lot about the government's ability to fully investigate matters. Episode 2 featured the military trying to stop the FBI from investigating their doings, which itself is reminiscent of the military-industrial complex where the military loathes bowing to anyone else. I'll be sure to track how the X-Files deals with this subject matter as season 1 progresses.
Maybe I'll then be able to write something more meaningful, rather than some copout post written at 11:30 pm. A fair warning, though: the next post will likely take a couple days.
